I wasn’t planning on writing again so soon, but I’ve been watching Gary Ambrose’s nickelmania stunt from the sidelines and I’m so impressed with what he’s pulling off here…

Before you read any further, click that link and make sure you freeze the price for his books. There’s no obligation to buy anything at this point. But last I saw the price was up to a little over 5 bucks, so you might want to at least lock yourself into the system before it goes up again:

Okay, now for the marketing lesson that’s in here…

When you sell any info-products online, there are basically 4 steps you need to take:

  1. Create a product
  2. Create a marketing message
  3. Create a delivery mechanism
  4. Bring people to your message

Step 1: The product

Deconstructing what Gary’s doing here, the first thing you’ll note is that he created 2 ebooks (actually only one; the 2nd book was written by a friend of his).

These products come very timely as they offer a solution to the problem many online entrepreneurs are currently facing: sales plumet between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Despite the fact that Westeners actually are spending lots and lots more than during the rest of the year…

What’s happening?

This is the problem explained in these ebooks and they also offer the solution. It involves a change of focus and quick action. Anyway, that’s not what I’m wanting to tell you about.

If you’re wanting to make sales the coming weeks, just get yourself the books:

Step 2: The message

Below you’ll find a copy of the email I received from Gary which triggered my into action straight away:

SUBJECT: Dirty Little Coins & Tidy Holidy Profits…

Hello again [$firstname],

I’m going to keep this short, really short, but with good reason …

Making money around the holidays isn’t all that hard, but it does require fast action.

For that reason, I’ve designed a system that is going to reward you for moving quickly.

If you’re curious, click this link:

What is “Nickel Mania”? Well, click the link and you’ll find out.

If you need a little more information first, here are the basics, but don’t say I didn’t try to get you there sooner …

- You’ll learn how to cash in on the holidays with virtually no risk.

- You may be able to join an affiliate program paying out 100%, that’s right, 100%, and you will be paid instantly.

- And, if you look closely, you might see a few marketing lessons too. ;-)

But, you have to act fast. What I didn’t tell you yet is that the name “Nickel Mania” wasn’t picked on accident.

The price of this package started at a nickel, and it’s going up by the sale! Now do you see why I’ve been trying to just get you to the site already?

Thanks & Good Luck,
Gary Ambrose

P.S. The site launched just minutes before I sent this email … so get moving.

As you can see Gary instantly zooms in on the main problem: how to make money during the holiday season:

  • ‘Tidy Holiday Profits’ (headline)
  • ‘Making money around the holidays isn’t all that hard, but it does require fast action.’ (2nd paragraph)

Obviously this message will only appeal to people who are facing this problem, but that’s okay. Especially with emails you’ll want to grab attention fast. It’s better to focus 100% on your niche for a product, than using vague terms in an attempt to seduce more people to visit your sales page. You’ll
probably only loose responses…

The specific tactic he employed was to create a sense of urgency. It’s a variation on the firesale - only it’s taking the firesale principles to an extreme:

  • starting price a nickel (haven’t seen anyone do that yet!)
  • price going up per sale…

With all the firesales that have been set loose recently, I’ve personally became pretty indifferent to them by now. Not this one however…

Step 3: The Delivery Mechanism

When you just look at the process of delivering the product, it’s pretty simple. You pay and you instantly get the download links sent to your inbox.

But the script Gary uses is actually a bit more complicated, since it changes the price after each sale. I wouldn’t know how to copy this. Gary is an accomplished programmer of course…

Step 4: Bringing People to the Message

While Gary started off by simply emailing his lists, the fact he offers partners 100% commission surely must have triggered a good response. People probably promoting like crazy…

So he also created a system which probably went viral in no time…

If you haven’t clicked the link yet…

www.nickelmania.net/index.php/patriciarits

… you’re probably wondering ‘What’s in it for Gary?’

I mean, if his pricing starts at 5 cents and his own lists respond first, surely he cannot make that much money from this…

Well, that’s the other clever marketing tactic he employed: as soon as you made your purchase, your presented with an upsell. You can acquire the master resale rights to these books for yet another bargain price.

Only this time Gary gets 100% of the profits - he isn’t paying out commission on the upsell to his partners.

You probably agree with me by now, that this is a notable marketing stunt. I’ve learned a great deal from this by watching and participating. I hope you got something out of it as well!
