Do We Need to Sell Our Souls to Succeed?!
Posted By Patricia Ritsema van Eck On 14th December 2005 @ 10:16 In Miscellaneous | No Comments
I was tipped today by a friend about another give-away event to help me build my list. This time it’s the 117 Christmas Gifts - The Internet’s Largest Free Give-Away Ever…
Is everyone going crazy or something?!
Well - if you are considering signing up for this one as a partner - meaning if you are contemplating on making a contribution so you can build your list - here’s some food for thought…
I went over the conditions and there are a couple of things which are really not cool.
It starts out okay. You can sign up for free and what’s even better, you can upload your product to their system so you don’t risk exceeding your bandwidth when potentially thousands of subscribers start downloading your product.
Apparantly there’s an upsell from the makers of this promo as well that you’ll receive a 50% commission on from anyone who’s referred to this promo by you.
According to the testimonials you’ll be able to easily get as many as 5000 fresh opt-in leads to your lists. All sounds pretty tempting, right?
Scroll down…
Now here’s where it gets dodgy in my humble opinion. With 117 products available for download, you know this is again a total information overload. So you’re best shot at having your products seen and wanted, is to be in the top of the list.
Are they listing according to quality and value of your product? - NO
Your ranking solely depends on how many people you manage to refer to the site… In their words:
“We’ve Created A Way So That The JV’s Who Work Hardest, Are Rewarded The Most!”
More realisticly it means that if you have a huge opt-in list already, you send out one or two emails and with a press of the button it’s delivered to your thousands of leads. Write a good email and it will have a good response, so there you go: top-listing.
Worked hard? Don’t think so…
Then there’s you with a little list of say 500 leads. You have a great relationship with your members so when you send out your recommendation you get 10% to check it out = 50 referrals. That’s great, right?
The only problem you’re now facing…
… we would like to see us help each other and grow our business together.

To have your listing maintained on our “Downloading Area”, we require every marketer to have a minimum of: (Total # of unique referrals)
A. 25 referrals By Dec 15′05
B. 50 referrals By Dec 16′05
C. 75 referrals By Dec 18′05
D. 100 referrals By Dec 20′05
E. 125 referrals By Dec 22′05
F. 150 referrals By Dec 24′05
G. 200 referrals By Dec 26′05
So, unless you manage to find some new list resources you can tap into, you’re product will be kicked off the download pages within 3 days. Pretty harsh policy for a program which states to ‘help each other and grow our businesses together”…
Because you really need those new leads to grow your business - as opposed to the top-marketers participating with their already established lists of thousands of people - you are the one who really needs to work your butt off to make this thing work.
But the odds are not in your favor and so it’s the same old story again - in reality it’s not the guys who work hard who get rewarded, it’s the guys who already made it who catch an easy ride. (Though no doubt they’ve worked hard in the past as well…)
Who’s going to invent the system which truly and honestly rewards hard work? Where you get listed for your quality and the value you provide? If you know of a system which is already out there, I’d love to know about it!
