Yesterday I purchased a copy of Derek Gehl’s book about email marketing. Which I probably wouldn’t have done if it hadn’t included a huge section on the issue of email delivery, bounce management and such.

As some of you know I’ve experienced nothing short but a nightmare this spring with email management. I’ve found myself blacklisted due to sharing the server IP with a spammer. By the time these people are abandoned from the server, the damage is already done and it takes weeks sometimes before you’re removed from all the lists. Comcast kept me on there till just a couple of weeks ago…

Sending emails from your own server has more disadvantages and the delivery rate and numbers of bounce backs can be discouraging. So far I haven’t seen the perfect solution yet, but Derek does point out the ways to increase the number of delivered emails. Information that I frankly couldn’t find myself on the internet (lost in too much garbage and gave up…) So I’m very pleased I got a copy!

I didn’t read all of it yet, but it did strike me that Gehl pushes their mail manager software Mailloop quite strongly. Personally I’m not that impressed with it. I tried it out but find the biggest flaw that all emailing is done from your desktop instead of a server. In the event your computer crashes - and it will one day - you could face a huge loss of data.

I have a friend who uses it who find it really good and to her the disadvantage of making daily backups is well compensated by the features the program offers. I guess everyone needs to find something that suits their own needs best!

Apart from the Mailloop push, the Insider Secrets to Email Marketing is excellent and highly recommended:
