EasyMemberPro Hyped Up

Kim Standerline and Anthony Hull are launching a new membership script today which has been specifically designed for the Newbie in mind. It’s called EasyMemberPro and you can find the details at:
As you can see from the link, I’m not an affilate for EasyMemberPro and neither do I want to be, because frankly I find the script to be hyped up. I confess that I didn’t purchase and install it to check it out thoroughly. I did study the online videos to get an impression and from what I can see in the admin interface, this is a pretty basic script.
To some level it can be compared with Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing Script as it includes an inbuilt affiliate program - this is something fairly unique with membership site scripts - but otherwise it is dwarfed when looking at other features that Mike’s script offers.
Now Mike’s script comes with a hefty price tag and as such this new script would seem interesting still. Especially for the newbie as they point out themselves as well. However…
When you create a site you should never compromise on what you want it to do. And really, the technical possibilities are limited with this one. I have 3 membership sites currently running and none of them could have been made with this simple script. The best thing I can say about EasyMemberPro is that it seems quite easy to create a site when you’re not very familiar with HTML.
So before you buy all the hyped up emails that plenty of marketers are currently sending out, go do some research first.
If you want to learn about membership sites from a marketing point of view, I highly recommend Mike Filsaime’s book on this subject:
Butterfly Marketing Manuscript
If you need a cheap script, check out the open source options. They come with strong community support though it sometimes does take a bit long to find what you need to know. I’m currently looking into Drupal myself and this script is pretty well documented.
I also hear good stories about Joomla, the Mambo successor and a friend of mine told me it’s actually easier to set up than Drupal is.
A script I very much like myself is Profile Manager. There’s a free version and a paid version available - both versions have lots more features that EasyMembersPro and the paid version sells for $197. It doesn’t include an affiliate system, but you can have automated subscriptions with 5 or 6 different payment processors including Clickbank. And the support is truly excellent!
I recently discovered a website where you can find a whole range of links to membership site and community scripts:

Hi, Thanks for the overview. I was tempted by the hype but decided it was a risky purchase due to my lack of knowledge. Your post is brief perhaps but illuminating and I appreciate your honest opinion and information. I’ll spend some time researching your links. Thanks, Phil

Hi Patricia,
I agree with you. The hype is thick out there on this one. I have been developing my own inhouse membership site for the last 7 years, and have just logged over 250,000th Member.
Mike’s butterfly script is an excellenmt choice, and you canb pick it up for under $500, if you go through his OTO and get to the downsell.
Best!

Hmm maybe you want to try something out before you do a review on it. Its not very proffesional of you is it.
I bought it and find it to be excellent, they’ve had a few gremlins with their launch, but I can assure you EMP doesn’t have half the bugs the butterly script had when it was launched (And I bought that as well)
I know Kim Standerline very well and she is a very honest ethical marketer. To be honest I bought it because she was behind the project. (I haven’t been disappointed so far. The script is a delight to use
EMP is a product I recommend and there isn’t an affiliate link in sight

@Betty
Good to hear you are happy with your purchase. And brownie points to Kim and her partner if they managed to release a stable script.
You are right that it’s better to try something before reviewing, but I don’t want to spend 200 bucks on a script that I can already tell from the sales page and FAQ lacks the features I want in a script.
Since you do have a copy and also have Mike’s BFM script, you are in a far better position to write a good comparing review. By all means, please let us know why you appreciate this script so much as it will help anyone who’s currently researching their options.
My primary reason for posting a warning was to get anyone to actually do the research first. Even after recently unsubscribing from about 30 newsletters I still got so many emails promoting this script that it’s obvious they are conducting a massive launch.
The problem with these from a consumer’s point of view is that you actually start believing there’s nothing else out there that can compare.
Personally I find the price too high for the value they offer. If their support is strong, that would be an additional recommendation. Little bugs usually also only show up once the script is being used by the masses.
But I’d be interested to keep an eye on how they are developing their script and also would like to know how you are getting on with your own membership site.
Please keep me posted!

I’ve been using Kim’s script for a membership site that I will be soon releasing.
I’ve reviewed aMember, Robert Puddy’s Script and the Membergate software and the overall winner I decided upon after taking price considerations, ease of use, functionality and the friendly user interface all into account - was Kim’s script.
I’ve used it extensively to add members, upload products, change copy, and for all forum functions and the number one point for me was its simplicity and ease of use and, in my opinion, this product has a really professional look and feel to it, and for a fraction of the cost of something like Membergate.
I believe Kim and her team suffered initial installation problems but I don’t believe there are any shortcomings in the product, and once the installation issues have been ironed out I believe this will be a first class product.
For those in the IM world who know Kim - she is your down-to-earth, no hype, no BS, tell it as it is, honest internet marketer.
I think its a real shame for people to make comments when they have never even used the product. What a cheek! To say “I confess that I didn’t purchase and install it to check it out thoroughly” and then run the product down by praising another similar type of product (I have never used the Butterfly Manuscript, so I can’t comment on this product)seems to make a mockery of the title to this thread “Marketing With Integrity”.

Hi Patricia,
As I know you to be fair in everything you do, I’d like to thank you for your warning to make people aware to investigate thoroughly before they buy the product - make sure it meets with all your requirements before the purchase.
I’ve downloaded Profile Manager and find it very comprehensive and it’ll suit my needs, but will have to spend some time in learning all the functions LOL which I find a bit intimidating at this stage - thanks for that reference.
Kindest regards

Membership scripts come in all different forms, price classes, levels of support and features. If you decide you want to start your own membership site, this is something you should take into account.
What happens when people are bombarded with emails about a single script? Their focus is on the one promoted. More so when it comes from people they trust.
Then they click on the referral link and the first thing they read is:
If You can Point & Click, You Already Have what it Takes to Make $1000’s Every Month from Your Own Membership Sites!
I don’t need to purchase the script to know that this is nonsense. A membership site is simply a way to deliver a product. Before you make any serious money from your site you’ll need to:
1) create that product;
2) write the sales copy;
3) do the marketing.
So, do you really ‘have what it takes’?
This is a typical ad copy headline to trigger greed - easy riches - and get people on the ’slippery slope’. Now they just want confirmation that it’s easy to get rich running their own site…
But let’s assume you’re hardened by all marketing emails and you don’t buy into the headline (just yet).
Next you’re presented with 4 examples of the kind of membership site you could be running:
1) PLR articles
2) recipe exchange
3) educational blogging info
4) car parts swap site
I think these are poorly chosen examples in the case of this script, because with the script features offered (as stated further down the sales letter, in the videos and on the FAQ page) only the first and third type of site would be possible.
The 2nd and 4th example require a script which has features that allow members to supply content and exchange information. I really couldn’t find a single hint anywhere that this is an option with this script.
The fact these type of sites are used as examples in the opening paragraph is misleading. So it’s hyped.
All the membership scripts I mentioned above do have the capacity to run that type of membership site.
Next comes a testimonial by Anik Singal stating:
“You have incredibly advanced features that I have never seen on ANY of the membership site scripts out there such as:
- Managing members based on their date of joining
- Built-in affiliate program
- Easy upsells
- Built-in 1 time offers”
Sorry Anik, but where have you been lately?!
It also makes me wonder if Anik really used the script yet, because this is what I found in the FAQ:
Can the program handle unlimited number of products (subscription types), each with own price, expiration and ANY other parameters?
No it can’t. If you want to sell other products, you will have to link to another shopping cart program (eg paypal) so they can buy it from there etc. You could make the download page on your easymemberpro page though and have it “hidden” so only the purchasers of that product can see it…
Bye, bye easy upsells…
Is the ‘Free – OTO - paid’ process like launchformulamarketing.com/members/ included?
No, but we will be adding this as a FREE upgrade very soon (within 2 months). Until the upgrade is ready, you could still place a signup form on your member site running an autoresponder etc which may convince them to buy.
The FAQ also is conflicting with a line further down on the sales page:
“Explode your Back-End Sales by setting up One Time Offers for your New members. This function is Built-In to the Admin Panel.”
So yes, 1 time offers are an option, but you have to be patient for a bit till that upgrade is ready. Or did I totally misunderstand this bit?
Anik’s testimonial is misleading as well, adding to my feeling this script is hyped up.
Then there’s something that’s just flat wrong:
“While other membership site scripts are built by tech heads and programmers who hand code their pages in HTML…”
Any tech head will instantly tell you that HTML is old. Geeks love anything new. The membership scripts which are currently cutting edge are built in PHP or Perl and use Ajax. The templates are very basic and the look and feel of the site will be determined by CSS. And yes, that’s the stuff that newbies tend to find hard to learn.
The fact EMP has an inbuilt HTML editor is a pro, but the way it’s introduced is making incorrect assumptions about other scripts. And also, it’s NOT unique to EMP.
Quote: “Whether you’re putting up articles, ebooks, photos, MP3s or videos for your members […] EasyMemberPro makes it incredibly simple to do with it’s powerful Point & Click interface!”
Sounds good. But when multimedia stuff is mentioned, you need to ask a little further:
1) photos - simply putting an image in a page or does the script come with proper gallery features?
2) MP3 and videos - just the download link or can the script manage streaming media allowing members to listen and watch online?
BTW - some of the really successful membership sites offer streaming audio/video to their free members and only paid members can get the downloads. Can you do that with this script? I don’t know - these questions are not answered anywhere.
Now lets take a look at members management…
First of all, most of the management tools are not unique to this script. They are common practise. I want to zoom in a bit on this line:
“Feel like sending out a site bulletin or related product offers? EasyMemberPro lets you quickly and easily mass email all members with special promotions or site news any time you want…”
Again, this is something any decent script is capable of. The question is, do you want to contact your members by mailing out from your own server?
1) Depending on your hosting service, this will or will not work. A lot of hosts have an inbuilt security system that allows you to send out only a certain number of emails per hour. Cheaper hosts will set this to something like 100 or 250 - so mailing out from a site with say 1000 members can take anything between 4 to 10 hours.
2) Some of the bigger ISP’s will automatically block any emails which are generated by a PHP script. When I switched from server generated email to a 3rd party responder I had quite a few people telling me it’s was nice to hear from me again after many months of silence. What happened to my emails? They just disappeared in a black hole - you often don’t even receive a bounce for these…
3) If you have shared hosting, there’s also the potential blacklisting problem. As soon as anyone else on the same IP is reported for spam, your emails will be blocked. I’ve been there myself and it’s a downright nightmare to deal with this…
You really want some way to integrate the membership signup with a good autoresponder service. Now this is something most script don’t have. Mike’s BFM script includes this feature and Drupal and Joomla come with modules/extentions to make this possible. I don’t know of other scripts which allow this as well and mostly it means customizing the script.
Brings you to the next important question: Can you customize EMP to suit your specific needs?
The FAQ is very clear about that:
“EasyMemberPro is not provided with resale or PLR licence, therefore the source code is not provided.”
Database backups
Quote: “It even has a built-in Database Backup feature…”
Okay, cool, but is this a backup which runs on autopilot or do you need to backup manually?
If the first, then it’s a true add-on. Manual backups of your database can easily be conducted from any decent website control panel…
And the final line of hype:
“Lets face it folks - there is no other membership site software on the planet that can hold a candle to EasyMemberPro, and most of the outdated and inferior membership software packages on the market today are going for astronomical prices.”
This is incredible misleading. Membership site scripts are so hot these days, you are actually going to have difficulties finding an outdated script.
No doubt there are scripts around which are inferior to EMP but again, all the ones that I mentioned myself previously are vastly superior to this script.
I am not saying you cannot run a decent membership site with this script. It all depends on your needs and again, it’s a big pro that the script is very user friendly.
But I cannot emphasize enough that you:
1) decide if you actually want to run a membership site script;
2) if yes, think thoroughly about what you want to be able to offer;
3) research all the different scripts out there to see if they include the features you need to build your site.
Again, I don’t need to spend $197 on EasyMemberPro to know that it will not suit my needs. And I hope I made it a bit more clear why I conceive the sales pitch to be hyped.
Otherwise I don’t know Kim Standerline personally and if she is indeed an honest internet marketer with integrity, she may want to have a heart-to-heart with her copy writer…
January 17th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
Hi patricia,
I have actually purchased almost all membership site scripts and used them. Not one does it all so i use different ones for different needs.
Almost all sales pages are way over the top in the form of hype etc.
Lets take the very expensive Butterfly marketing script/course which I own and use. Last year when I purchased it, the sales page made it sound like it was ready to go right out of the box and you just point and click your way through the process.
As you and I both know..that was not the case. In the early days of the product sales, there were tons of people very upset with the fact that the script was so buggy. In my opinion is was released way to soon to make those claims on the salesletter.
I even purchased because of the recommendation of mark Joyner who I don’t know if he even used the product but in my opinion he didn’t because he would not in his right mind promote a product that was not ready to go like the sales page described.
It has come a long way since then but it still has its issues.
Other good scripts which integrate with aweber and other sutoresponders are launch formula marketing (which i own and use as well.
The bottom line is, I own this script and have used it and yes, it can use some new features and tweaks but I am an avid programmer as well and even though the Butterfly marketing script has all the bells and whistles, it takes alot longer to setup and get going with it where as these other scripts we are talking about can have your site up and running in just a few hours providing you have the sales copy and everything else in place.
So the bottom line is…Is easymembershippro over hyped? Just as much as most salesletters for similar products but the fact remains that I purchased and used it and it works great right out of the box.
So I agree with some of what you are saying but until you try it out yourself, you shouldn’t judge it by the salesletter but by experience.
January 18th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
@Ken
If the sales letter had been more truthful and at the very minimum not implying other scripts as outdated and inferior, I probably would never have bothered posting about it.
Kind of telling how sales letters indeed do a great job with working on the emotions… ?!
I agree with everything you say about the BFM script. Which frankly I found way overpriced as well and after purchasing it I did promise myself to never ever fork out such an amount of money for software again.
If you want an out-of-the-box script which works really well and is fairly easy to get to grips with, I can recommend Joomla!.
Because I was tipped last week that this is such a good script, I downloaded it and installed it on a website last Saturday. It took me 2 days to get it working as I wanted it to. I spent about 20 euros on a handbook to shorten the learning curve. You can see the site live at:
http://www.waterlosewijk.info (it’s in Dutch btw!)
Since Joomla! is free, user friendly and comes with a ton of extre features, the time and money I spent on it were extremely worth it!
Membership site scripts are in essence the same as CMS scripts. When you google for the first, you’ll find mainly commercial scripts though. Here’s another great resource for doing your research:

Thanks for your well expressed opinions. Especially Patricia and ken.
I have Amember and recently was interested in dlguard.com.
I really like the unlimited liscence and the preformated sales letter format in EMP. EMP improved since last year, so I’m getting it.

Wow gang,
Looking in from the outside, it looded nice on the demo page. I spent 2 hours checking and testing. After, I did begin to feel it was missing a few things I may need. I am looking for a large scale membership script I can use for 911ACCESS.com. A “lease to own”, would be better for me than an outright purchase. I would like a few ideas via email or here. Thanks for your ideas. Michael (919) 641-8772 Staff@911ACCESS.com
