The various downloads you can encounter on the blog and within the membership area include PDF files, MP3 files and zipped files. In case you are not a seasoned downloader, here are some tips for you to assist you with the download process…

Tools You May Need

Zip files (.zip)

If you don’t have an unzipping tool you can get a free tool to do this from:

MP3 files (.mp3)

Since you will be downloading MP3 files, you may need Windows Media Player to play them. In most cases, you will already have some sort of media player which can play the MP3 files without any problems. This is the download URL for the Windows Media Player just in case you do not already have a way to play MP3’s files on your computer.

PDF files (.pdf)

You may also need to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader (freeware) to view PDF files you will have once you unzip the .zip files. The PDF files are your eBooks. As a word of warning, you may want to remove the check marks from the boxes for the "Adobe Yahoo! Toolbar" and the "Adobe Photoshop® Album 2.0 Starter Edition" if you want to install just the reader software itself, without any extras.

Another great tool I highly recommend is the Acrobat Reader Speedup tool (freeware). This tool is not a requirement to view the products or anything. However, it may make your experience even more enjoyable. This little tool will make the Adobe Reader run much faster than it does with its default settings. It simply stops the reader software from loading plugins which usually are not needed. (These plugins can be reactivated if needed in the future)

Download Instructions

Zip files (.zip)

After right-clicking on the download link for a zip file, hit “Save” when you are prompted as shown below.

Find the folder where you’d like to save the file and click “Save.” For easy access, save the file to your Desktop.

When the file has finished downloading, just go to the folder (or your desktop) where it is saved and double click it. This will unzip a zipped file.

MP3 files (.mp3)

This works similar to downloading .zip files. Right-click the download link and save the file to the folder of your choice on your desktop. When the file has finished downloading, just go to the folder (or your desktop) where it is saved and double click it. This will autostart your default program for playing mp3 files on your computer.

PDF files (.pdf)

You can open PDF files directly in your browser. Once their loaded, click “Save a Copy” and as with zip files, find the folder where you’d like to save the file and click “Save.” Then go to the folder (or your desktop) where it is saved and double-click the file to open it.

If you cannot find the file you’ve downloaded, just use the Find File feature to locate it. Hit Start on your Windows toolbar, select “Find” or “Search” then select “Files or Folders” and type in the file name.

Once found, double click the filename.

Trouble Shooting!

What if you’ve followed these instructions to the letter and when you try to open your files, you get an error message?

An error message is usually the sign of:

  • a damaged file;
  • an older version of Acrobat Reader (in which case you can upgrade to the latest version using the link further up this page).

As with anything on transport, digital files can lose bits and bytes on the way down to your desktop. There can be numerous reasons for this to happen and when you experience this problem, here are a couple of things you can do:

  1. Try downloading the file again.
  2. Disable your firewall, anti-virus and spyware programs momentarily and download again.
  3. If you are using a private server of the company you work with, sometimes the system is set to not allow downloads of zipped files. Contact the person in charge of the server about this, or download later from a different location.
  4. Install a download manager. This is a software program which will check and double check the download progress and not tell you it’s finished until it is 100% certain each and every byte was included in the download.

You can acquire a free download manager at www.freshdevices.com.
